Piroa Falls

Waipu Waterfall

Tucked away in the heart of the Waipu Gorge Scenic Reserve, the Waipu Waterfall — also known locally as Waipu Falls or Piroa Falls — is one of Northland’s most picturesque natural treasures. Surrounded by native bush and rugged limestone cliffs, the waterfall cascades gracefully over a rocky escarpment into a deep, clear freshwater pool below. The setting is tranquil and unspoiled, offering a peaceful retreat that feels far removed from the bustle of everyday life. It’s a favourite spot for locals who come to cool off on warm summer days, and for visitors who want to experience an authentic slice of Northland’s natural beauty. Families often enjoy picnics by the water’s edge, while swimmers take a dip in the plunge pool and photographers capture the shifting light as it plays across the falls. Whether you’re seeking a refreshing swim, a quiet bush walk, or simply a moment of serenity, Waipu Waterfall is the perfect place to pause.
